Myrrh is an ancient essential oil and, of course, was one of the gifts of the Three Wise Men.It is a very popular gargle for sore throats, respiratory problems, mouth ulcers and halitosis (bad breath). To banish mouth ulcers and also gum infections such as gingivitis try gargling with 2 drops of Myrrh in half a glass of water. If you don’t like the strong taste I suggest 1 drop Myrrh and 1 drop Lemon or Peppermint. Gargle on a regular basis to prevent problems from occurring.
Myrrh is also used for thrush and vaginal discharges of all descriptions. The best method is a sitz bath. Simply add 4 drops of Myrrh to a bowl of hand hot water and sit in the bowl for about 10 mins. If you have a bidet then use this instead. You can also try 2 drops Myrrh and 2 drops Bergamot.
Myrrh is great aid to promote menstruation and for relieving painful periods and to ease difficult labour in childbirth. Use Myrrh in the bath or make a compress by putting 4- 6 drops of essential oil into a small bowl of water. Soak any piece of absorbent material such as a flannel in the solution. Gently squeeze out the flannel to remove any excess water and place on the abdomen or the back area.
You can also use myrrh to combat fungal infections such as Athlete’s Foot.
A footbath with 3 drops Myrrh and 3 drops Tea Tree is ideal.Myrrh can also be added to a foot or hand cream to heal cracked and chapped skin adding 3 drops per 10gms cream. Use myrrh on its own or in combination with Benzoin and Lavender.
On a spiritual level Myrrh can be used for those who feel rather ‘stuck’ as it helps us to grow spiritually and helps us to look at aspects of ourselves that we are not keen to look at.
